ISM440E-20 (440HP) belongs to Cummins ISM11 heavy-duty electronically controlled diesel engine series, 10.8L displacement, inline 6-cylinder four-stroke design, Euro II / National II emission standard. It is widely used on heavy-duty tractors, bulk cargo heavy trucks, large coaches and engineering machinery power units for long-distance overloading transportation.
This engine adopts turbocharging and air-to-air intercooling system together with mature CELECT electronic fuel injection system. It delivers huge low-speed torque, strong power reserve and outstanding fuel economy under heavy load conditions. It outputs peak torque 2100 N·m at 1200 rpm, which brings excellent climbing performance and heavy-load starting capacity for 40-ton+ heavy vehicles. It applies 4 valves per cylinder structure, bore × stroke:125mm×147mm, compression ratio 16.1:1, firing order:1-5-3-6-2-4.
During continuous heavy-load operation on mountainous and bumpy roads, the engine maintains stable power output. Nevertheless, long-time high-temperature working condition and vibration will trigger typical failures such as fuel injector wear, turbocharger damage, oil seal aging, water and air leakage. When core components are damaged, symptoms including insufficient power, black exhaust smoke, abnormal knocking noise and excessive oil consumption will occur.
